Here is my duck. It is painted in acrylics.

As a child, my Mum attended an English Girl’s College in Alexandria, Egypt. It it quite enjoyable to listen to her talking about her life in Egypt. One of the subjects which she studied at the English Girl’s College was Middle English, which fascinated her very much. She has ignited a spark of enthusiasm for it in me, as well. It is quite interesting to observe the influence of the French, brought by the Normans, upon the original English. Middle English looks quite pretty to me; perhaps more than anything else, the mediaeval imagry which it evokes in my mind appeals to me.

I am working on a watercolour painting of a pair of ryukins. Whilst I am pleased with the way I have painted the ryukins, the overall painting seems to me to be a bit lacking in excitement. Perhaps this is simply because it is as yet unfinished. We shall see. I need some masking fluid; that would open new artistic possibilities for me.

I found an old box of children’s oil pastels, in which there are 16 colours. I tried them, and I do not like what I produced with them. I do not know if it is because there are not enough colours, or if it is because the oil pastels are not artist’s grade. I wonder what I could do with artist’s grade oil pastels.

But Spring has finally arrived, with lovely warm breezes, golden sunshine, and sometimes the gentle sounds of songbirds. Songbirds are not very common in the city, but there are a few, and they are delightful.

I shall henceforth try to update more often.

I have recently completed a watercolour painting of lilies-of-the-valley. My first two attempts were not satisfactory; the first one was too dull and too dark, whilst the second one sported flowers which looked more like trumpet flowers rather than lilies-of-the-valley. But my third attempt was a success, and I am very pleased with it.

I have begun to paint paintings of animals in my own unique style. One of my personal favourites is my “The Pretty Red Fox.” This painting is very spontaneous artwork, yet the little fox has very much the air of a fox.

I hope eventually to create enough paintings to have a showing. I am undecided whether to have a themed show, such as watercolour florals, or to present a variety of my subjects and mediums.

I like the heat. To me, it is inspirational. It evokes peaceful, lazy forests…flowers communing in golden sunlight…the music of insects. Most of these things I must simply imagine, for I live in a city where there is very little of Nature’s beauty. However, of an evening, I can hear the haunting song of the Crickets. And what a joy it is…and what vespertine beauty it paints in my imagination!

I am now working on a Watercolour of Tulips. I’ll try to show the work in progress, if I can. My computer overheats so it takes some time to get anything accomplished on him. =)

But here is a Watercolour secret that I have discovered. At least, it worked for me. Have you ever painted a watercolour on paper that was not previously wetted, with the result that your paper ended up buckled? Well, that is what happened to me. But I got the idea to gently wet the buckled area with a wet paper towel—-on the back, not on top of the painting. And it worked!

Welcome to my Artist’s Blog. Due to technical difficulties of mysterious origin, I have started this blog over again. Here I shall discuss my artistic efforts and eventually upcoming events. I’ve also taken this opportunity to change the visual aspect of my blog. Until soon! Cheers.
